Psychiatric Technicians, in addition to their custody responsibilities,promote and implement principles of Wellness and Recovery, and Psychiatric Rehabilitation, provide a basic level of general behavioral and psychiatric nursing care and are expected through their attitude, knowledge, and performance to facilitate the rehabilitation of patients.  Psychiatric Technicians work to maintain order and supervise the conduct of patients, to protect and maintain the safety of persons and property; to provide a basic level of general behavioral psychiatric nursing care to patients who are committed as sexually violent predator commitments (W&I Code 6600 et seq.) and / or mentally ill inmates admitted from the Department of Corrections (pursuant to Penal Code 2684).

Psychologist & Social Worker, Coalinga State Hospital, Department of State Hospitals

The Psychologist applies psychological knowledge and techniques to the assessment and treatment of forensic patients, mostly sexual offenders detained or committed pursuant to California Sexually Violent Predator (SVP) Act; conduct wide range of psychological assessments; facilitate psychotherapy groups and individual therapy; construct case formulations; develop and implement treatment plans; lead multidisciplinary treatment team conferences; write progress reports; assist in developing training programs for other staff; and serve as consultants.
Ability to provide accurate and complete reports and documentation in accordance with professional standards, hospital documentation polices, and State guidelines.
Ability to provide psychological assessments that are completed timely and address the required specificity of content.

Forensic Specialist, Harper Medical Group/ South Bay CONREP, San Jose, CA
1 part-time (20hrs/wk) and 1 full-time (40hrs/wk)

Position: Career position with Harper Medical Group – South Bay Conditional Release Program in San Jose. Must be licensed or license eligible such as MFTI or ACSW.

Individual would primarily provide case management, individual and group therapy, perform psychosocial and risk assessments, and produce reports to committing courts and State Hospitals. The forensic specialist would be responsible for treating 10-12 patients receiving outpatient treatment as part of their conditional release from various State Hospitals in California. Duties also include court testimony as an expert witness, working collaboratively with other professionals in the field of forensic psychiatry, and travel to county jails to conduct psychiatric placement evaluations for persons found Incompetent to Stand Trial and Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity. Travel is required to various state hospitals throughout the state of California for the purpose of evaluating for outpatient treatment readiness.

Special Requirements:
Must have knowledge of interviewing/evaluation techniques, bio-psycho-social assessments, risk assessment, and prevention skills as well as knowledge of and ability to use the DSM-5. One must also have the ability and willingness to work in a challenging forensic environment. Forensic Mental Health experience preferred: 1 year

CONREP is the California State Department of State Hospitals statewide system of community based treatment, evaluation, and supervisory services for judicially committed individuals and Mentally Disordered Offenders. The program provides standardized intensive community outpatient mental health services.

Responsibilities include:
- Risk assessment
- Treatment planning
- Individual, group, and collateral psychotherapy
- Case management
- Home visits and searches for contraband
- Obtaining urine specimens for drug testing
- On-call during afterhours and weekend/holidays
- Community supervision with an adult, mentally ill, forensic population under the court-mandated treatment of Central California’s County’s Conditional Release Program
- Testimony
- Authoring court reports
- Evaluations and assessments conducted at County jails and the Department of State Hospitals

- Must be a Licensed or Unlicensed Social Worker, a Licensed  or Unlicensed Marriage and Family Therapist, or a Licensed Psychologist in good standing.
